In our society we are plagued with worry, nervousness, stress and the feeling of fear. Our society is plagued with these emotions. It is easy to get consumed in these key emotions and not let them pass us by. I too once suffered from these emotions consuming me, especially stress, but now I am happy to say that I have been released from these emotions that kept me in bondage.
I will share with you how I was able to find relief and have a healthier relationship with the emotions mentioned. It can be difficult to recognize how to have a healthy relationship with these emotions, because they are associated with being ‘bad’ emotions. However, they are only ‘bad’ when they are disproportionate to what they are intended for within our bodies and minds.
Fear, worry and nervousness are in place to help keep us safe from harm. When our emotions are not in balance it can be difficult to acknowledge the emotion and let it keep going, as opposed to consuming us. Many find it difficult to be able to watch emotions pass through as visitors and they let them take up residence in their minds.
So how did I conquer these emotions?
I once was in a constant state of worry, stress, fear and nervousness. There wasn’t a day that went by it wasn’t one of the first things on my mind. It is NOT a fun way to live. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. With a few changes in my life, I have been able to keep these emotions in the healthy state and my body and mind now utilizes them in a healthier manner.
What have I done to keep these emotions in line and where they belong?
A lot of it began with a mindset switch. I had to CONSCIOUSLY do this. It was not easy, but when you embrace optimism and positivity in all areas, your body will begin to recognize this and follow suit. How though do you conquer this mindset switch?
Do you find yourself saying ‘well I hope so’ or things like ‘well maybe I can do this’?
That will provoke those emotions that you don’t want to have. Change your thought patterns to things like ‘this will happen’, and ‘I am worth it’, ‘I can do this’. Before you know it, your thought patterns will begin to change.
If you are new to switching your thought patterns then try posting little sticky notes throughout the house, on your bathroom mirror, setting your lock screen to a positive quote. Say them out loud yourself whenever you see them. Changing your self-talk is incredibly important to getting rid of these nagging thoughts and bringing these emotions back into balance. How do I bring them into balance?
Meditation and Prayer.
I bring this up a lot, because it has helped me TREMEDOUSLY. When I start to feel an unpleasant feeling come on, I turn to prayer and meditation immediately. It doesn’t always have to be a long session, but it always is effective. It helps to bring my burdens to the one who laid His life down for me and it helps me to evaluate these emotions, acknowledge them and let them pass. If you’re new to meditation, I suggest using a guided meditation, which you can find on YouTube! It helps to center and bring about a state of peace.
If you’re getting really worked up and need some grounding, here is a simple practice you can do anywhere:
5– find 5 things you can see, and acknowledge them
4– find 4 things you can touch (it can be the table, desk, your clothes, keep it simple)
3– find 3 things that you can hear (the fan, the lights buzzing, a clock ticking)
2– find 2 things you can smell (your oil of choice, the air around you)
1– find 1 thing you can taste
This will bring you back to the here and now and help ground you.
Take care of the body.
Our body is a temple, and it should be treated as such. This is one thing that really has begun to resonate with me. I have to live in my body forever, I don’t want it to become polluted with junk! By polluting our bodies with toxins and living an unhealthy lifestyle it is invoking these different emotions, and helping our bodies to stay OFF balance. We should treat our bodies with care and listen to our bodies when it is whispering not when it is screaming at us.
By embracing a non toxic lifestyle in all areas of our being, we will be able to help regulate these emotions by flooding our body with all things good.
For example, take a look at some of the foods you eat, the ingredients in your makeup, your cleaning products and so much more.
If your products are filled with toxins, so are you! For example, that bright blue dish soap you wash your dish with then put your food on. Particles from that soap, then is on your food. You put laundry detergent and fabric softener on your clothes? Those toxins are then being absorbed into your body via your LARGEST organ! Your skin!
When mediating and praying, I will reach for my Young Living essential oils and utilize them right along with my prayer and meditation. Certain oils help to balance out these particular emotions and help to stabilize and ground me in moments of fear, nervousness, stress and worry. It is so incredibly easy to use these oils, anyone can do it.
Traveling up through my nose and into my brain the aroma and the particular plant molecules give a grounding and stabilizing emotion. How they work would take me a while to explain, and I will be blogging about that on a separate occasion, but in conjunction with the other two methods mentioned it is incredibly effective, and even on their own! Of course there are different oils for certain emotions, and each one will work differently for different people! Below I will give a few of my recommendations!
